When people think of African tech hubs, Lagos, Nairobi, and Cape Town often dominate the conversation. But something remarkable is happening in the hills of the Northwest Region of Cameroon that deserves global attention. Silicon Grassfields is quietly building a movement that is changing lives, disrupting industries, and proving that great tech doesn't only come from big cities.
Founded in 2021, Silicon Grassfields started as a small coding bootcamp with 15 students and a single room. Today it serves 500+ active community members, runs 6 programs, and has helped place graduates at companies across Africa, Europe, and North America.
What makes SGF special is its model: deeply community-rooted, peer-to-peer mentorship-driven, and designed for the realities of African developers — including unreliable power, limited connectivity, and the need to balance tech careers with family obligations.
